Hail and
well-met, Gentle Readers! Once again, I volunteered to help out a fellow “scribbler”*
promote her latest work—namely, Kendra E. Ardnek’s The Worth of a King. *Trumpet fanfare* This is another of Kendra’s
books I’ve been looking forward to for quite a while. From the…interesting…social/political
structure of the kingdom of Dialcia, to the diverse characters, to the “inverted
sphere” world-building, this book has a lot of intriguing points. Not to
mention lost twins and masked swordsmen (and-women, if I’m understanding
correctly). And Rizkaland fans will get to see an “earlier” version of Laura
the Doorkeeper, and Granite and Amber before Amber turned to evil—totally cool.
So, now, on to
the reveal!
* Scribbler = An author, a writer. Suggested by the image of someone frantically jotting (scribbling) down ideas before they evaporate from memory.

The Nali Lily, with which Dialcian princesses declare their chosen suitor [via Pinterest] |
Book Description:
Princess Obsidia’s father was killed the night she was born. Since there was no male heir, the crown went to the man who killed him, by Dialcian law. This never bothered her, growing up, and when it comes time for Obsidia to choose her husband, she chooses Prince Delaney, the son of that man, with little hesitation. Only then does her life start crumbling around her.

This never bothered her, growing up, and when it comes time for Obsidia to choose her husband, she chooses Prince Delaney, the son of that man, with little hesitation. Only then does her life start crumbling around her.
Adrian expected to live a normal life, taking his father’s
place at the print shop when his father retired. But, on his eighteenth
birthday, when the princess’ engagement is announced, his world is ripped out
from under him when he learns that his life was a ruse, and he is the twin
brother to the princess – and expected to take back his father’s throne.
Delaney knows that his country is hovering on the brink of
war – and that his father may harbor murderous intentions towards his intended
bride due to her Zovordian blood. He wants nothing more than to protect Obsidia
and his people, but as merely prince, he has little power against his father.
The ancient war between the Dragons and the Immortal King
and Queen is nearing its climax, and the three are already caught in it.

A wee snippet
from the book, to whet your literary appetites:
“Del!
Aren’t you going to introduce me?”
Adrian
finally noticed the other member of the party, a girl about Obsidia and
Christa’s age, with long, blonde curls and large, mischievous, blue eyes, and
who was tugging at Prince Delaney’s sleeve.
Delaney
gave an exaggerated sigh as he turned his attention to her. “And this is my
sister, Princess Nadilynn, who somehow has it in her head that she’s someone
important.”
“Del!”
He
was smiling, and a small giggle escaped from Obsidia.
And now, the
moment you’ve all be waiting for: The Cover Reveal itself!
Ta-da! Simple
and elegant. Whoever made this did an excellent job.
I also had the
opportunity to interview Kendra and some of the characters from the book:
Adrian--What was your reaction upon discovering you
had a twin sister?
Panic over the discovery that I was a prince and the intense desire to meet and protect her.
Obsidia--What are some of your favorite things to do, by yourself and with Delaney?
Panic over the discovery that I was a prince and the intense desire to meet and protect her.
Obsidia--What are some of your favorite things to do, by yourself and with Delaney?
Read. For
both answers.
Delaney--What are your impressions of your future
brother-in-law?
He's a good lad. So much like his sister, it's
mind-boggling. I think he'll make a fair enough king so long as he surrounds
himself with good people.
Kendra--Which of your characters has been the most
fun to work with during the writing process?
Either Laura,
my dear Doorkeeper and favorite character *shush, don't let Maryanne know I
said that* or Nadilynn, Delaney's impetuous younger sister.
Head on over to
Kendra’s blog and say Hi if you haven’t already, and check out the other blogs
participating in the reveal:
Until next
time, Gentle Readers,
God bless,
~R~
Of course Laura is the favorite. How could she not be?
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that definition of scribbler. Very fitting.
Things I love in this post:
ReplyDelete1. The Nali lily picture, because I'd been picturing it as a normal lily, but having it be black/dark is PERFECT.
2. The snippet. :D
3. Kendra's answer to who's the best to write, because YES, Nadilynn would absolutely be so much fun to write.
I don't know if you've noticed ... but there is a majority on Nadi snippets when it comes to the snippets I shared for these posts.
DeleteAnd, yes, it's a fairy dark lily. I think the Chila, the friendship lily featured in a later chapter, is a lighter flower, though.
