This
honor goes to “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen. While
this song is more pop/contemporary than I’m usually comfortable
with, there’s something about it that I love. I think it’s
because I see a lot of myself in Elsa—afraid to be myself for fear
of disapproval, rejection, and/or hurting others. Haunted by past
mistakes, longing to come to a place “where I can be
myself...without hurting anyone.” While one unfortunate line in the
lyrics has branded this “Elsa’s Rebellion Song” in some
Christian circles, I see it more as a vocalization of the turmoil
going on inside her, quickly escalating to the near-euphoria she
feels when she realizes she no longer needs to hide her powers. And I
could go into a detailed analysis here...but that’s a post for
another time....
I
generally watch the movie clip, too, because of course the song is
nothing without the amazing visuals!
