This dubious
honor is pretty evenly split between the beautiful Irish ballad, “The Last Roseof Summer” and “And So It Goes” by Billy Joel.
Hands down.
I’d heard the
tune of “Last Rose” for several years—and saw it performed on a DVD of one of
André Rieu’s concerts—but never knew the words. After seeing the concert, I
looked up the lyrics…and actually cried.
I think I first
heard “And So It Goes” on the radio at some store or other, but my most memorable
experience was when I heard it on the Hallmark TV series Signed, Sealed, Delivered (which is another story altogether).
And now, every
time I hear this song, I cry.
I usually don’t allow myself to cry over things
like that, but this…this song is just so sad.
Actually, they
both are.
Anyone need a
tissue? Or ten? ☹
