When we lived
in California, Bro and I had a friend who was an excellent violinist. I mean,
that boy could pull the music outta that fiddle! And one song he played
particularly well was “Ashoken Farewell.” Now whenever I hear it, I think of
our friend…and compare the artist’s performance with his. Yeah, we had some
talented friends, once upon a time….
The story goes
that there was a town called Ashoken, and for reasons I’ve now forgotten,
everyone who lived there was forced to leave because…because “they” were going
to convert the area into a lake…? Somebody help me out here….
Anyhow, if I’m
remembering correctly, this song was written as a memorial to the town.
